Arsenal Football Club is believed to have initiated talks with Napoli’s Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, eyeing a potential transfer in the summer of 2024.
The news broke out on Wednesday through a report by the renowned sports website, FootballTransfers. The website exclusively disclosed that Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu Gaspar, made a direct approach to Napoli’s owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis, to discuss Osimhen’s potential move to the Premier League club.
FootballTransfers stated,
“Our sources confirm that Edu Gaspar reached out to Napoli’s owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis, to discuss Osimhen’s availability. This move was encouraged by the 24-year-old striker’s agent, Roberto Calenda.”
Arsenal’s intent to secure a top-tier striker by 2024 is evident. Last season, the team’s goal tally was distributed among players, with Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka each netting 15 goals. Gabriel Jesus managed 11, despite grappling with a severe injury. Eddie Nketiah and Granit Xhaka, who recently transferred to Bayer Leverkusen, contributed nine goals each.
FootballTransfers further reported, “Osimhen, whose contract with Napoli expires in 2025, seems reluctant to renew his terms with the Serie A club.”
Victor Osimhen recently celebrated a significant achievement, scoring his 100th professional career goal. The milestone was reached during a penalty against Sassuolo. The 24-year-old striker, showcasing his form, had already bagged two goals in his season’s debut match, confidently securing the third with a penalty shot to the net’s left corner.
